10 Questions You Should Know the Answers To

10 Questions You Should Know the Answers To
Because the answers to these ten questions will help you discover the very best in yourself…

1.  What would make you proud of yourself?

When you follow your heart and intuition, people won’t always agree with you.  When you find something that makes you happy, not everyone will be happy for you.  When you show unwavering kindness to others, some people will question your motives.  When you are honest to the core, some folks will attempt to use your honesty against you.  When you look for the best in everyone you meet, a few of them will take advantage of it.
Don’t let any of these people stop you from doing these things.  These people don’t matter.  In the end, what does matter is how you feel about yourself and the life you have led.  You will ask yourself one question: “Am I proud of how I lived?”  Make the answer: “Yes!”  Read 1,000 Little Things.

2.  How can you make a positive difference?

Even when it seems like a hopeless effort, do the right thing.  Always live firmly by the forces of love and truth.  The bullies and cheats who seem unstoppable in the short term always fall from power in the end.  Love and truth always rise to the top.
Keep injecting your goodness into the world, one small act at a time.  It’s these small acts of goodness stacked together that eventually change the world.  You may never see the full result of your positive actions, but they will be accounted for and realized in time.  If you do nothing, there will be no result – no positive change ever.

3.  What are you trying to accomplish and why?

Know the answer to this simple question and remind yourself of it every single day.  You must identify, without any doubt, the specific reason you do the work you do.  Success can only occur when there is a target and a reason to hit it.
When you have a reason to do something, you have a legitimate purpose behind your efforts.  When you connect this reason to a desired result, you’re able to summon the discipline and persistence necessary to get the job done.  Give yourself a good reason and you will find a way to succeed.  Read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.

4.  What are the roadblocks standing in your way?

A roadblock is only a roadblock if you don’t know about it.  If you know about it, it’s just a challenge.  Look around and evaluate the challenges you face; within them lie the opportunities to make lasting progress.  You are in the best position to make the most of these opportunities, because you know exactly where you are, where you want to go, and what resources you have at your disposal.
Remember that the roughest roads often lead to the top, and the best way to get over a roadblock is to go through it.  Thus, you must run toward your challenges with all your might, because the easiest way through them is to trample them beneath your feet.  You have what it takes right now.  You know what you must do and you know why.  Step confidently into your challenges until you reach the road on the other side.

5.  What’s the next step?

Remember, you will never make a bigger mistake than sitting back and doing nothing simply because you can only do a little.  So go head and start small.  Take a small step, and if you can’t take a small step, take a tiny one.  Do what you can with the resources you have right now.  Get yourself moving in a positive, productive direction.
The best thing about big success is that it comes one step at a time.  A flash of success, no matter how small, creates the momentum necessary to create even more success.  Every positive step forward puts you in position to take the next one.

6.  What are your flaws and faults?

You will never be flawless.  You will never be faultless.  Acknowledge your flaws and faults and accept them.  Let the difference between your flaws and the flaws of others be that you have accepted their existence and moved past them, while others are hopelessly trying to hide them.  Let the difference between your faults and the faults of others be that you have addressed them and learned from them, while others are still living in denial.
Don’t fall victim to fabricated illusions.  Don’t hide from reality.  Face your deficiencies and use them to bask in the glory of your personal growth.  Read The Untethered Soul.

7.  What issues do you need to resolve with yourself?

When you feel lonely you look around for someone to fill the void in your life.  You assume that your loneliness stems exclusively from being alone.  But once you find company, it doesn’t take long before you realize that there’s still a void in your life.  You still feel lonely and unfulfilled, so you blame it on your company and you move on to someone else… and then someone else.  This cycle perpetuates for months, or even years, until you are eventually ready to face the truth.
The truth is, a partner, or even just a friend, can add lots of beauty to your life, but they can’t fill a void that exists within you.  You alone are responsible for you own fulfillment.  If you feel desperately lonely when you’re alone, it means you’re in bad company.  It means you need to work on your relationship with yourself first.  To believe otherwise is to delude your mind and perpetuate your loneliness as you
hop from one failed relationship to the next.

8.  How are you burdening yourself?

If you feel like your back is breaking from the weight your mind is carrying, perhaps it’s time to lighten the load you carry.  There are many burdens you can easily let go of if you’re willing.
Start by leaving your worries behind you; worries only fill your mind with negativity.  Instead take constructive action – get involved in something worthwhile that takes your mind off of things.  Next, drop your grudges.  Grudges and resentments simply suck energy and time away from you without any positive return.  Once you’ve gotten this far, it’s time to stop pretending like you know everything.  Rather than attempting to prove yourself, open your mind, eyes and ears to new and real possibilities.  And before you wrap things up, let go of your impatience.  Two of the most vital virtues of your personal growth will be your patience to wait for the right moment and your courage to make the best of it.
As you can see, dropping burdensome negativity from your life is fairly easy once you realize how much of it you’re carrying around with you.  Do yourself a favor today and lighten your load.

9.  How have you celebrated your progress lately?

Focus on the progress you’ve made, on the next positive step, on the silver lining between where you once were, where you are now, and where you’re headed.  Do not think of yesterday’s failures, but of the success that is possible today.
Be proud of yourself.  The fact that you’re trying is immensely impressive.  You have conquered complacency.  You are crushing your fears with every new effort you put forth.  You aren’t where you want to be yet, but you’re making progress.  Step by step will get you there.  Even if you feel like you’re running in place, you aren’t.  No effort that you make to attain something worthwhile is ever lost.  It doesn’t matter how slow you go as long as you don’t give up.  Read The Success Principles.

10.  What do you love about your life?

Life is a series of highs and lows.  There will be times when bad things happen.  When these times strike, it’s important to keep things in perspective.  How you respond to life’s inevitable difficulties defines the strength and growth of your character, as well as the quality of your life.  The false idea that you are a victim of any particular circumstance is simply inaccurate.
The fleeting ups and downs that occur on a daily basis are tiny threads in the overall fabric of your life.  Each one adds to your personal growth.  The quality of your life is ultimately your choice.  You can choose to be immobilized by the gravity of your disappointments, or you can choose to rise from the suffering and treasure the most precious gift you have – life itself.

Five Lessons From Zimbabwe's Richest Man, Strive Masiyiwa

Strive Masiyiwa
Strive Masiyiwa
Over two decades ago, Strive Masiyiwa took the Zimbabwean government to court in a grueling five-year legal battle. Masiyiwa had been planning to launch his own mobile telecoms company, but the government, which claimed it held an exclusive monopoly to manage and operate telecommunications in Zimbabwe, was desperately trying to thwart his ambitions. After the High Court ruled in favor of Masiyiwa, the Zimbabwean tycoon went on to build Econet Wireless, a leading Pan-African mobile telecoms company with operations across Africa, the U.K and New Zealand.
Today, Econet Wireless is an investor’s delight. It is easily Zimbabwe’s most successful corporation. It is Zimbabwe’s largest mobile telecoms firm, with a subscriber base of over 6 million. Its profits for the year ended February 2011 stood at over $145 million and the Johannesburg-headquartered company has operations in Burundi, Lesotho, Kenya, Nigeria, Botswana and Rwanda. Econet has a market capitalization in the region of $600 million.
Strive Masiyiwa, the unassuming and soft-spoken founder of the telecoms giant, is the richest person to emerge from Zimbabwe.
You can glean important business and life lessons by taking a close look at what made Strive Masiyiwa a successful billionaire telecoms tycoon.
1.   Identify A Human Need And Reach Out To Meet It
According to Masiyiwa, this is the most sure-fire way to succeed in business.
In 1994, 70% of Africans had never heard a Telephone ring. People all across Africa desperately needed a reliable and cost-effective means of reaching out to their loved ones and associates wherever they were in the world. That was a human need. Masiyiwa, as a young engineer set out to change that. He had the technology to do it and access to substantial resources. “We didn’t wake up and say we wanted to make billions of dollars; we said we wanted to extend telecommunications to all the people of Africa,” Masiyiwa stated during last year’s commencement address to graduating students of Morehouse College. If you reach out to meet the needs of the people around you, you will wear the crown.
2.   Be Patient And Relentless; Never Give Up
Few people are as patient and as relentless as Masiyiwa. In 1993, when Masiyiwa set out to establish Zimbabwe’s first independent mobile telecoms network, he encountered stiff opposition from the Zimbabwean government. The Zimbabwean Post & Telecommunications Corporation (PTC) – a government-owned entity held a monopoly over the telecommunications business in the country and the corporation was vehemently opposed to granting Masiyiwa a mobile operating license. The Government threatened to prosecute him if he dared to proceed with his venture. Masiyiwa took the battle to court, and the case lingered for close to five years. It was a slow and long process, but Masiyiwa never gave in. Of course the government tried to subdue and frustrate him, but Masiyiwa was resolute. He was determined to challenge the government’s monopoly of telecommunications services in the country and was keen to launch his own mobile telecoms network. His persistence paid off. By 1997, the court ruled in his favour and Masiyiwa was able to launch Econet wireless. Develop a tough skin; be relentless, and be patient. Success hardly occurs in a split second; you need to learn to wait for your moment
3.   Work Hard And Stay Focused
This is a no-brainer. Nothing good in this world comes easily, least of all, success. You may have identified a need and possess the most brilliant business ideas. You may even have the praying spirit of Jesus; but if you are lazy you’re doomed to fail. Success requires hard work. Masiyiwa works long hours every day and has cultivated the requisite discipline to be focused. Work Hard And Stay Focused!
4.   Pray Hard
“God will do nothing except you pray; and you have to be clear what you want”- Strive Masiyiwa
This might sound like illogical business advice particularly if you’re an atheist. But according to Masiyiwa, a devout Christian, prayers are essential for success in business. Masiyiwa has stated countless times that when he was battling the Zimbabwean government in court for the right to operate a mobile Telecoms license, he prayed fervently. While the court case lingered, Masiyiwa prayed for victory. Even though it took four years, Masiyiwa’s prayers were eventually answered. Employees at Econet and people close to Masiyiwa confirm that the tycoon never takes any important business decision before first going on his knees. Judging by Econet’s raving success, Masiyiwa’s prayers actually work. Prayers may work for you as well.
5.   Give Back
What you give comes back to you ten-fold. Masiyiwa is Zimbabwe’s biggest philanthropist. Along with his wife, Tsitsi, Masiyiwa is a co-founder of the Capernaum Trust, a Zimbabwe-registered privately funded Christian charity which sponsors the education of over 28,000 Zimbabwean orphans. Apart from providing scholarships to these children, the organization also provides food packs and healthcare for them. Masiyiwa funds the trust from his own personal resources with support from Econet Wireless. The Universe seems to have rewarded his generosity with brilliant success and a $600 million fortune. -

Nigerian Millionaire Builds $500 Million Cement Plant To Rival Billionaire Dangote

Nigerian multi-millionaire tycoon Abdulsamad Rabiu is reportedly constructing a $500 million ultra-modern cement plant in Edo State in the south of Nigeria.
The cement plant, which will have a three million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) capacity, is near completion and is expected to be commissioned early next year. Abdulsamad Rabiu disclosed this much last week in London during the signing of a $35 million contract agreement between his company, BUA Group and Siemens for the construction of a gas turbine power plant for the new BUA Group Edo Cement factory. Siemens is expected to supply three SGT 500 turbines with a total capacity of 450 megawatts to supply power to the cement plant.

With this new cement production facility, Abdulsamad Rabiu will compete with Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, for a share of Nigeria’s lucrative cement market.
Rabiu, who is worth $675 million by FORBES’ latest estimates, is easily Aliko Dangote’s fiercest and most formidable competition in Nigeria. Rabiu’s conglomerate, the BUA Group, has substantial interests in the key sectors Dangote is heavily vested in- cement, flour and sugar production. Dangote has always held the upper hand in all these sectors, but BUA Group has been a worthy challenger. With BUA’s new facility, Dangote’s monopolistic dominance in the very lucrative cement sector might be endangered, but only a little bit. BUA’s 3 million-mtpa facility is only a tiny fraction of Dangote’s cement production assets in Nigeria, which have a combined capacity of 20 million mtpa.
Rabiu learned the ropes of trade from his legendary father, Khalifa Isiyaku Rabiu, one of the most successful businessmen of the 70s. By the early 80s, the young Rabiu was already importing commodities like sugar, rice and cement. He built a conglomerate from importing these items to manufacturing them. Today, his BUA Group has interests in cement, sugar and flour production. The Group also owns BUA Cement I, Nigeria’s first floating terminal. -

Women Who Flirt, Um, Negotiate, At Work Are More Successful

Yet another social science study tells women what we already know – being flirtatious gets us further faster than acting all tough and macho around the office.

The researchers from the University of California, Berkeley, and the London School of Economics “found that flirtation . . . conveys assertiveness and power, from someone who is also concerned about satisfying their own interests,” and that combination led to 20% improvements in the deals negotiated by study participants.
But Don’t Be Too Friendly
Flirting, warned the researchers, is not the same as friendliness and warmth, behavior that can get you marked as a chump who doesn’t know your own value.
The perfect mix, say the academics, “combines warmth, friendliness, and affiliation with flirtation, including playfulness, flattery, and sexiness.”  They direct our attention to Joan Holloway from Mad Men as an effective deployer of the flirtatious weapon of mass destruct . . . uh . . . influence.
Do You Need to Be Young and Beautiful?
I’ve taught beginning deposition skills for more than fifteen years for the National Institute of Trial Advocacy and I always give the women the option of flirting their way to the information they need.
Listen, I was never a beautiful woman. Doesn’t matter. At the risk of offending my few male readers – men are chumps for flattery. You can flirt your backside off at 60 (yes, I’m 60) and get what you want. My mother – god bless her – is 88 and she has, count ‘em – three men who drive her to the store and doctor appointments, fix her small appliances, and take care of her pool and her yard.
Mom – also not a raving beauty by beauty magazine standards – is a survivor. And a female survivor of the “Great Generation” primarily needed to know how to get and keep a man. I rejected her example for decades. It just so happened that I love men and love to flirt – passions that just happen to work in the workplace.
You Cannot Fake This
People like to be liked and men, in particular, like to be liked for being male by a woman in full possession of her self-esteem and comfortable with her sexuality.
To flirt effectively with men at work you must truly dig them.
There is no worse signal that you are an untrustworthy negotiation partner than to be perceived as manipulative, deceptive, and inauthentic.
The good news, of course, is that men are pretty easy to fool when it comes to your interest in them.
Women, on the other hand, all seem to have been given the super-secret decoder ring in their Cheerios box before they were in grade school.
Don’t try to flatter us. We will think of the twenty-five reasons why you can’t possibly believe your own B.S. before we melt into a puddle at your feet.
The number of men who can literally charm the pants off a woman who I’ve known in a career crawling with the male gender I can count on one hand.
There are far more Joan Holloways than there are Don Drapers. Far, far more.
How Do You Flirt Successfully With Someone You Don’t Find Attractive?
You don’t. It’s not possible. The key is this - everyone is attractive if you’re looking for the good rather than the bad. I’ve never known anyone who was so thoroughly repugnant that I couldn’t find something to love in them.
So go get ‘em ladies. This is not crass manipulation. This is recognizing the desires of your fellows and caring deeply enough about them to find what is beautiful and compliment (and complement) it.
